THE
PROGRAM
There are
many orphaned children in Kazakhstan and the referral process
with our program is usually fast. Parents considering this
program should be prepared to travel quickly after their dossier
is submitted. Infants older than six months, older children,
and, on rare occasions, siblings, are in need of loving
families.
THE
COUNTRY
Kazakhstan
is a country full of magnificent sites, history, and people. The
people of Kazakhstan have a reputation for exceptional
hospitality.
The
breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991 led to sharp economic
declines in Kazakhstan which contributed to a large number of
children abandoned and living in orphanages. Although the
economy has improved in recent years due to economic reform and
foreign investment, the number of children living in
institutions has grown. More then 4,000 children from Kazakhstan
have been adopted by families in the U.S. since 2000.
There are many, many children living in
orphanages in Kazakhstan today who need the stimulation,
nutrition, and lifetime of love that can only be found within a
family.
OUR TEAM
IN KAZAKHSTAN
FTC’s team
in Kazakhstan has a well-established successful relationship
with the government of Kazakhstan. Our team in Kazakhstan has
facilitated nearly 1,000 foreign Kazakhstan adoptions over the
last four years.
After
years of consideration, we chose our team simply because we
believe them to be the best. We are proud to work together with
them in fulfilling our agency mission of uniting children with
loving, permanent families.
Rest
assured, you will receive great care, support, and preparation
with FTC and our amazing foreign team.
THE
CHILDREN
Children
over 6 months of age are in need of families. All orphaned
children in Kazakhstan must be on a national database for six
months before they are eligible to be referred for international
adoption. The ethnic background of your child will most likely
be Kazakh/Asian or Euro/Asian. The ancestral backgrounds of the
children can be: Kazakh, Russian, Chinese, Mongolian, Korean,
Turkish, Armenian, and German. Usually children have more than
one of these backgrounds. It is not possible to specify a
particular ethnic background for the child you intend to adopt.
Adopting two children at the same time is possible only if they
are siblings. On rare occasions, siblings are available.
Children of both genders are in need of families.
The
children live in orphanages (also called Baby Houses).
Kazakhstan orphanages typically provide some of the better
orphanage care available, but an orphanage is still an
environment with not enough stimulation, nourishment, or
attention. Families should be prepared to parent a child with
typical institutional delays and malnutrition. The most common
rule of thumb is that for every three months a child is in
orphanage care, you can expect one month of delay in
development. Being a part of the growth and flourishment of
these children
is an
amazing experience, as most come to their homes and blossom.
THE TIMING
Once your
file is accepted in Kazakhstan, expect to travel quickly. The
majority of Kazakhstan adoptions currently take 4-6 months to
complete
from the time we receive your completed dossier. While the
Kazakhstan program is currently moving fast, it is impossible in
any international adoption to give an exact timeline as to when
your adoption will complete.
